Purani Haveli

A splendid Palatial mansion worth viewing.Prior permission is required to visit.The Purani Haveli literally meaning ‘old mansion' was the erstwhile residence of Mir Momin, the Peshwa of Hyderabad or the Peshwa (Prime Minister) of Mohammed Quli Qutub Shah in the later part of the sixteenth century. This old palatial building lies between the Dabirpura main road and the Chatta Bazar and located to the southwest of Afzal Gunj Bridge adjacent to the Dewandevdi in Hyderabad.
The Purani Haveli is a U shaped building complex with a one storied building that flaunts the European style architecture. This beautiful single storied building is bordered by two-storied oblong wings.

In 1777 AD, this property was transferred when Nawab Mir Nizam Ali Khan, Nizam II, acquired the Haveli from Mir Alam who was a descendant of Mir Momin, the original owner. Later this property was hierarchically passed on to Nizam III in the eighteenth century. Nizam III's son Sikandar Jah relocated this haveli to the Khilaurat complex and since then it came to be known as Purani Haveli. The most extraordinary feature of this mansion is that there is a hand-cranked lift that is made of wood and embraces the full length of one wing of the palace.

The Purani Haveli is considered as one of the architectural attractions of Hyderabad as the architecture of this edifice reflects the synthesis of European as well as Indian architectural styles. The facades of this mansion are created in 18 th century medieval style while the courtyards are made in traditional Indian architectural style. The two enormous courtyards are flanked by rooms and intricate balconies with European vaults. Some rooms of the Purani Haveli have mosaic floors and tiled walls that have still not been damaged by the ravages of time. The old building also houses antique furniture that are of great historical value. Apart from this there is also a library and a museum that houses a collection of gifts acquired by the Nizam.At present a college for vocational training and religious education named Mukarram Jah Technical Institute is located within the complex of the Purani Haveli.

Timings: Purani Haveli remains open everyday except Friday from 10:30 A.M. to 5.00 P.M.
