Travel Place : Kolanupaka
World » Asia » India » Hyderabad Kolanupaka Kolanupaka, 80 Km. from Hyderabad, is situated between Hyderabad and Warangal. Kolanupaka was the second capital town of Kalyani Chalukyas during the 11th century AD. During this period the village was a religious centre of Jains, and ranks among other great Jain centres in the South. It was also a great centre of Shaivism. Lit-erary evidences reveal "Kolanupaka" the birth place of "Renuka Charya" the great "Virasaiva" Saint, believed to be born from the "Svayambhu Linga" at this village and absorbed into it after preaching Vira Saivism. The village changed hands from the Chalukyas to Cholas and then into the hands of Kakatiyas. Kolanupaka lost its ancient glory and status of the Kalyani Chalukyas times, as the Kakatiyas developed Orugallu as their capital which is near Kolanupaka and has several historic monuments, temples, sculptures and paintings of the 10th and 11th centureis. Kolanupaka temple is famous as the jain temple of Mahavira , 2000 years old, having 1.5 meters high image of Mahavira. Kolanupaka became the second capital of the Kalyani Chalukyas in the 11th century. During this period the village was a religious centre of Jains, and ranks with other great Jain centers in the south. Map
