Chote Hazrat Ki Durgah

Inside Dewar Devdi is situated  the Durgah of Hazrat Abbas which is also  called Chout Hazrat Ki Dargah. It is dedicated to Hazrat  Abbas. the  younger brother of Hazrat Abbas. the  younger brother  of Hazrat i a man Hussain who was one of the Martyrs of Karbala. Religious congregations are held here throughout the years specially during Muharam on 8th and 10th day.

A rough climb of about 400 stairs would lead you to the Chote Hazrat Ki Dargah in Hyderabad and once you reach the place you will surely understand that it was worth the toil. Built in the memory of Hazrat Ali, who was the son in law of prophet Muhammed, way back in the period of Asif Jahis, the Chote Hazrat Ki Dargah is a popular and sanctified pilgrimage center for the Muslims. There are a large number of Muslims who come here to pray on the 8th and 10th day of the Muharram, an important Muslim festival. Along with the Chote Hazrat Ki Dargah, there is no end to the number of majestic monuments in Hyderabad , all of which has successfully preserved the tradition and culture of this historically rich city. This along with other mosques like the Jama masjid, the Mecca Masjid and the Charminar all reflect fine specimens of Qutub Shahi architecture.There is an interesting history of the Chote Hazrat Ki Dargah Masjid in Hyderabad. Yakoob, a eunuch of Ibrahim Quli’s court saw Hajrat Ali in his dreams. On a hilltop he saw the same impression of his palm on a stone, the kind he saw in the dream. He carved out the impression and places it in a shrine. There was an arch built over the spot. It was Ibrahim Shah who later built a mosque parallel to the Dargah. The festival of Muharram is celebrated in Hyderabad with a lot of pomp and ceremony. The state of Andhra Pradesh and its capital have a sizeable Muslim population and Muharram being an important festival for this religious group it is quite a popular festival in Hyderabad.

Moharram is observed by the Shia sect of Muslims in to pay homage to the martyr Imamm Hussain. Imam Hussain was the Prophet Mohammed's grandson and he was killed tragically while fighting a battle in the year 680AD. Mohammed's son-in-law Ali and Ali's elder son Hassan are also remembered for their acts of martyr-hood during the same battle.

Muharram or the sacred month is celebrated at the beginning of the Muslim New Year. The Muslim community in Hyderabad also celebrates Milad-un-Nabi in which numerous people assemble in the holy Mecca Masjid (mosque) and at Dar-us-Salaam. According to tradition the Muharram period lasts for over a month. On the eighth and tenth day of Muharram people from all walks of life pay their respects at Chote Hazrat ki Dargah, inside Devan Devadi, in Hyderabad. Muharram celebrations in Hyderabad are said to be an integral part of Hyderabad life and you would do well to time your visit to this city during Muharram.

The Chote Hazrat ki Dargah is located in Devan Devadi, in Hyderabad, India. The Chote Hazrat ki Dargah was built in the era of Asif Jahis. One needs to a flight of four hundred stairs or more to reach the place of worship. The Dargah (mortuary) was built in the memory of Hazrat Ali, the son-in-law of Prophet Mohammad.
