Lodging help in Rome, Venice and Athens

We are traveling to a Greek Isles cruise in August 2008. On our way to Istanbul (where the cruise ship sails), we are stopping in Rome for a few days. Any suggestions for a
hotel in Rome? Also, we are taking the train to Venice for a couple of days, any lodging suggestions? After the cruise, we are staying a couple of extra days in Athens. Where would you stay if you were in Athens? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Your request for hotel suggestions is difficult to answer because you have not stated whether you are a budget, moderate or luxury traveler. Even if we have a favorite hotel, we`re not inclined to mention it until we know your travel style. That said, you`ll find tips for your trip to all three cities in the travelogues on our web site. Please follow-up here with more info so can help.

In Rome (August of 2007) we stayed at Hotel Canada (Via Vicenza 58)- booked through venere.com at a rate of 126 Euros/night including breakfast. We took the train from the airport to the central railway station Termini as the hotel was maybe about 10 minutes away walking from the main station. We stayed in Rome for 2 nights then rented a car at the train station - again an easy walk. The hotel was good. Breakfast was fine. And the hotel was in walking distance of a metro. Re: Istanbul - been many years since there so cannot remember name of hotel though it catered to the French. Re: Athens - we will be there in September 2008. I made reservation at the Attalos. A 2 star hotel but with decent to good reviews.
