Bhatinda is one of the oldest towns in Punjab. Its 11th century fort saw the fortunes of many a chieftain fall and rise. Indias first woman ruler, the illfted Razia Sultan ( 1236 - 1240 ) was imprisoned in the Bhatindia fort by her enemies before her execution.
