Bundi: Overview

South-East Ajmere lies "Bundi" a historic place in the South eastern Rajasthan Bundi and Kota were once a single principality ruled by the Hada Chauhans an offsort of the famous clan of Chauhans who ruled Delhi and Ajmer. After the defeat of Prithiviraj Chauhan by Sulthan Mohammed Gori in 1193 AD, the Chauhan nobles sought sanctulary in Mewar. They were welcomed and proved allies to the Rana. Yet some young warriors ventured on their own, over powered the Meena and Bhil traibals of the Chambal valley and established the Kingdom of Hadavati or Haddoti. Later two branches of the Hadas formed the branches of the Hadas formed two sepa¬rate states on either side of the Chambal. These were Kota and Bundi.
Bundi situated 35 kilometres away from kota in a ring of hills full of natural beauty. A dream remembered a moment in history caught and held within this ancient

walled city, stood still centuries ago. Bundi is said to have got its name from Bunda. A Meena Chieftain and grand father of Jeta. It was found in 1342 AD by Rao Deva the Hada Chieftain of the Chauhan clan of Rajputs.
Bundi nestled in a narrow natural valley. Quiet and beautiful. Cut away from the rest of the bustling world-breathing on in its own quiet Rhythem. It is enclosed by huge walls fortified by four gateways. In the centre of the township lies a lake (Naval Sagar). A medieval fortress stands sentinel to this city - a mute witness to history and time. Bundi is famous for its intricate paintings and murals.
