The tree that stands today is said to have grown from the original Bodhi tree under which Lord Buddha meditated River Niranjana in which the Lord bathed after attaining en¬lightenment flows quietly outside the tiny lamlet. This is Bodhgaya, the greatest pilgrim centre for the Bud¬dhists of the world. He was born in kapilavastu now which is in Nepal. Most of the major events of his life like enlightenment and last sermon happened in 'Bihar,, significantly the state's name original from 'Vihara' meaning Buddhist and Jain mouasteries which abounded in Bihar.
