Sasaram was made strong hold of many rulers. It was the home of II surclunaste. The Afghan ruler dynasty that produced nighty rulers like Fail,' Khan who after defeating Humayun in 1539 A.D became the Emperor of dia. Sher Shah was a great military leader and an able administrator, but
is best remembered for the archilectural monuments which were erected der his orders. The present Grand Trunk Road which passes through th, town is said to have been built by him. The finest his mausoleum, built Hi during his life time at sasaram. He died in 1545 A.D. The great masoleuni was completed after his death by his son salim Shah.
During the mutiny of 1857 A.D Sasaram was a centre of distui bances. North of the town is a Rising Knoll were Rebel leader, Nishan
was executed. Sasaram was also for sometimes the head quarters of an la dependent command of British forces. A part from this the place abounds in rich scenic beauties in and around with the Kaimur hills forming the Southey fringe of the town.
