Rishikesh Travel Guide

Rishikesh, situated on the Rishi bank of river Ganga and surrounded on three sides by Himalayan ranges. This is a residental head quarter of saints and sages. It is said when Raibhya Rishi did hard penances, God appeared by the name of "Hrishikesh" and this area was hence for the called by the name.
Lord Rama and his younger brother, Lakshman also came here on the advice of Rishi Vashistha to do penance for killing Ravana, the Brahmana king of Lanka. Lord Rama stayed at Rishikesh and Lakshman at Tapovan until they obtained remission. Rishikesh has numerous ashrams, some of which are internationally recognised as centres of philosophical studies, yoga and meditation as an instrument of mental and physical health.
