Paithan: Overview
This ancienty 56 kms south of Aurangabad and is situated on the bank of the river Godavari. Once known as "Pratishan" was the seat of the satvahana dynasty, who ruled from 2nd century B.0 to 2nd century A.D. In ancient times if has trade contacts with the Roman empire. The city gained more prominence during the 16th century A.D. Marathi poet and sait Eknath lived here. There are several temples di,corated with fine wood carvings. I he little town is famous for its shrine of saint Eknath which lands it special spiritutal ambience.
