Orchha was once the capi tal of the Bundela Rulers of thP, area. The hand of time has rested lightly on this medieval township and the palaces and temples built by its Bundela Rulers in the 16th and 17th century A.D. and retain much of its pristime perfection, later under Mushal Rule. Raja, Bir Singh Judeo, who built the exquisite Jehangir Mahal, particulary worth seeing is the Jehangir mahal a rectangular palace with eight minars. This palace to commemrate the emperor Jehangir's visit in the 17th century. From here the view of soaring temple spires and cenotaphs is spectacular. Complementing the noble proportions of their exteriors are interiors which represent the finest flowering of the Bundela school of painting. Most of them are in a wonderful Mate of preservation, Built along the Betwa rifler, in a Rocky terrain with scattered stands of trees, the palaces rise like mirages from the surrounding country side.
