Mandore (9 kms from Jodhpur)- The ancient capital of Marwar. It contains the cenotaphs of Jodhpur rulers. Here, we can see the palace and the gardens built by Maharaja Abhaya Singh in 1724-49 AD. Monstrous gardens carved out of rocks in different terraces various flower¬ing and foliar herbs and shrubs can be seen at Mandore. The Royal cenotaphs built on the Shiva and Buddhist patterns the gallery of 330 crore-Gods and God desses-status and temples are very im pressive. The old fort, "Junagarh" and a large temple showing the architect of 4tli Century and there we can see the van
ous episodes of Lord Krishna.
It is said that king Rawana was married with Mandodary on the same place and it is known as "The chanwari of Rawana.
The high light of this place is the hall of Heroes which house sixteen gigantic figures carved out of a single rock depicting popular Hindu and folk deities stand there in bright colours and are very well maintained. The area is surrounded by landscaped gardens.
