Lonavala: Overview

Lonavala is  a charming hill a health  resort at an altitude of 625m, in the western  Ghats. Lonvala has a very Bhushi Dam. Tiger leap. Ryewood park, TungloDam Barometer hill There are a number  of sanatoria and hotels. Lord Elphinstone Governor  general of Bombay started the fashion  for visiting khandala and Lonavla in 1871 A.D  And  since the health  and holiday resorts only 5kms a port have  burgeoned with sanatoria and the famous Lonavla chikki

Lonavala and Pune is good. Buses shuttle between Lonavala and Khandala. Travelers can hire bicycles on hourly basis to explore Lonavala or to go to Khandala.
Though one can enjoy the beauty of these places through out the year, the best time to visit Lonavala and Khandala is from October to May.
Set in the lush green hills of the Sahyadris, Lonavala is at an altitude of 625 m and is the most popular weekend destination from Mumbai and Pune. Known as the Jewel of the Sahyadri it offers the tourist pristine woods and valleys, gushing waterfalls, historic caves, and scenic vistas. The surroundings hills were the stronghold of the Maratha rulers, who practised guerrilla warfare from here, against the Moghuls and later the British. Lonavala now houses holiday homes of celebrities and industrialists, as well as a plethora of holiday resorts. Its other famous cousin town, Khandala lies just 5 Km away. 

The best time to visit Lonavala is between the months of October and May. It is advised not to visit Lonavala in the monsoon season between the months of June and September, as it experiences heavy rainfall during this time.
Tourists can savor traditional Indian, Marathi and western food in the hotels and restaurants across this small town. Lonavala is known for chikki, which is a local sweet.

Sardar Sarsenapati Dabhade History....
Sardar Dabhade of Talegaon Dabhade were never the "Senapati" of the Peshwas....
"Senapati" and "Peshwa" were two different titles held by two different families in the Darbar of the Chhattrapati's of Satara....
Sardar Khanderao Dabhade was conferred the title of "Sarsenapati" by Chh.Shahu Maharaj {Chh.Shivaji Maharaj's grandson} on 11th January 1717.
Sardar Satyasheelraje Padmasenraje Dabhade is the present descendant of the Sardar Sarsenapati Dabhade Family of Talegaon Dabhade.
