Jaunpur: Overview
Jaunpur was of great important Muslim settlements, when the city was founded by Feroz shah Tuglaq in 1369 A.D. to perpetuate the memory of his cousin sultan Mohammed whose real name was Jauna, Later around 1394 A.D. it became the centre of the independent sharquie kingdom of Jaungur founded by Malik sarvar. The Sharquie Rulers of Jaunpur were great patrons of art and Architecture and constucted many five tombs, mosque and other buildings in the Afghan style. Jaunpur was also an important centre of Islamic studies. Jaunpur had a munber of Hindu Buddhist and jain temples and monsteries before. Map
