Jalandhar: Overview
The sixth Sikh guru fought several pitched and decisive battles against the Mughal army at Jalandhar. The dreaded Governor of Jalandhar, Adina Beg, tried to crush the sikhs but the latter captured the town in 1757. Maharaja Ranjit Singh captured Jalandhar in 1811. In 1846, with the annexation of this territory by the British, Jalandhar became the head quarters of this territory and developed in all spheres. A Muncipal Committee was established in 1846 and the cantonment, about 6 kms towards the South-East was established durring the same year. Map
