Gurgaon: Overview

According to the District Gazetteer, the name is gurugaon, or village of a spiritual teacher.. It is said that Yudhishtar, leader of the Pandavas, gave this village to their guru Dronacharya, whose tank still exists on the west side of the road to the railway station. Another explanation is that Dronacharya gave spiritual instructions to both Kauravas and Pandavas at this place.
The village of Gurgaon Masani situated about one and a half kms away is the side of the famous temple of Sitla, the godess of small pox, which is held in great Eastern, throughout this part of the country. It is visited by a large number of pilgrims. Gurgaon, because of its vicinity to Delhi has developed into a large and flourishing town.
