Gulmarg Travel Guide

Gulmarg was once called Gauri Marg. Its name was changed in 1581 A.D. by king Yusaf Shah, a regular summer visitor. The Mughal emperor Jahangir once collected 21 different kinds of flowers here. Literally the 'Meadow of flowers in persian, and marg is upland meadow, the resort is not wers in persian, and marg is upland meadow, the resort is not only known for its (18-hole) gulf course the highest in the world. But has been fast catching up as a ski-resort after the installation of a 500 metres chair-lift to the 2 kms skr-run. This has been supplemented by four sop histcated ski-lifts.
