Surrounded on the east by the Ganga river on the west by the Yamuna river on the north by the Himalayas on the South by the Sivalik Hills. The doon Valley is a most picturesque valley at the foot hills of the beautiful Shivalik Ranges. It has got salubrious climate and hence is enjoyable throughout the year. The cli.nate is condusille to the growth of fruit trees and Dehadun is famous for its fruit orchards.
The name Dehrdun appears to be a corruption of two words. Each spaced in antiquite by many centuries Dehra is belived to have derived from the word "Dera" a camping ground. Dronacharya, the common guru of the pandavas and Kauravas of the Mahabharat and the illustrious son of Goddess Ganga, set upon ashtam here near the village of Dwara, to perform his devotions at a lonely spot, the place care to be known as Dronastream.
